Welcome to
StrateGems, the official publication of
The Good Companions! The
nickname "Good Companions" dates back to 1918, and was revived
in the 1980's by the U.S. Society of Chess Problemists. Our
magazine, StrateGems (or
SG for short),
is a non-profit venture founded in
1998 by a small group of American problem enthusiasts. The composite,
"StrateGems", was derived from two other candidate names:
Strategies
and Gemstones.
Our mission is to spread the joy of chess problems
around the world. StrateGems
features 'standard' magazine sections,
Twomovers,
Threemovers,
Moremovers,
Studies,
Selfmates,
Helpmates,
Fairies
and Retros.
And, for those with more distinctive tastes,
SG has two unique forums,
Proof Games
and
Series-Movers and Stalemates.
Our editorial team observes a "no
limits" policy on the number of published originals. Each quarterly issue is
generally 60 pages, with 120+ originals and 280+ total diagrams -- a
feast for any problem lover!
